Budgetty is a smart wallet designed for young individuals who need financial management support, with a form that changes based on the user’s financial status.

My Contributions

Planned the idea and concept for Budgetty and designed the product and its interaction methods.

Inspiration

The hidden costs of credit card convenience

In the United States, 81% of shoppers use cards highlighting the convenience they offer. Credit card use significantly reduces the pain of spending, which is otherwise triggered by the activation of the brain’s 'Insula' when paying with cash. As a result, individuals tend to spend more when using credit cards.

Feel the spend: Visualizing budget like cash

Just as paying with cash makes individuals physically aware of money leaving their hands, using Budgetty allows users to visually observe their budget shrinking in real time. This tangible feedback helps promote more intuitive and effective financial management.

How does Budgetty work in real life?

#1 Congnition

User slips their hand into their pocket, feeling Budgetty. The thickness of Budgetty serves as a reminder to check their daily balance.

#2 Contemplation

User becomes aware of their current assets and starts contemplating whether to spend on the item or not.

#3 Decision

User makes a decision whether to spend or not and engages in cautious and wise spending according to the scale of their assets.

Interface Design

Bridging digital and analog

Budgetty combines the advantages of both digital and analog design. Users can view and edit information through the screen, while the analog interactions allow them to easily feel and manage their assets.

Intuitive interface

Budgetty provides intuitive analog inputs through rotation and pressing, allowing users to easily navigate through all settings while minimizing the risk of touchscreen malfunctions in their pockets. This user-friendly interface is designed for clarity and ease of use.

Content-focused screen UI

Budgetty is designed with user-friendliness and readability at its core, utilizing E-ink technology to minimize energy consumption. Additionally, it features an intuitive UI design that remains effective even without the use of color.

Ergonomic design

Inspired by products we carry every day, Budgetty is designed to be small enough to fit in a pocket while providing a comfortable and stable grip in the hand.

Environment resistant

Budgetty is a device that needs to be carried at all times. To ensure convenience and reliability, Budgetty aims for wireless charging without a separate charging port, thereby preventing malfunctions and breakdowns in any situation.
